In May we visited the Eiffel region in Germany for a bike weekend. During the weekend in the Eiffel we were better prepared than in the Ardennes, but we were already heightening our goals. The highest ascent would be over 600 meters. Riding out of Heerlen we definitely wanted to avoid Aachen, but all the signs lead to Aachen. Finally we found a good bicycle route and a good place to camp in a small forest where we could set up the tent for the night.
Our route went through the Eiffel national park and had a lot of nature which made the route rich of nature and with interesting places on the way. We also visited the cute city Monschau and came across a cycling competition in Eupen. On our way there we had a nice road crossing the national park Hoge Venen which we had all to ourselves due to the condition of the road. This trip was good to feel what expectations can do. Susanne was especially battling with hers on the day before last when there was a surprise ascent to 600 meters. She was expecting downhills all day… Cycling is not only a physical activity but can also be strenuous mentally.
Unfortunately we lost part of the track which we biked through the Eiffel. The track below has a reconstruction for the part between Heerlen and Nettersheim. From Nettersheim it is the track we actually biked.
